A sand filter is a reliable technique in order to remove suspended solids from water. The filter medium is composed of multiple sand layers , each with a different calibration and specific weight.

Sand filters are commonly used in:

  • drinking water production
  • effluent polishing of waste water
  • prefiltration before active carbon filters
  • prefiltration before membrane systems

Working principle

AAQUA offers 2 kind of sand filters:

  • Discontinu sand filters need a backwash after some hours of operation. If continuous operation is necessary, 2 sand filters have to be installed in Duplex-formation. This setup procures a complementary redundancy.
  • Continuous sand filters that are able to work 24/24 h with only 1 filter. The rinsing of the sand is simultaneous with the filtration.
