Filter press

Chamber filter presses are mainly used for mineral sludge or physico chemical sludge with relatively little fat or oil to thicken.

By using this technique often the highest solids concentrations are obtained.

In order to obtain a better press cake lime can be added to improve dewaterability.
In a plate press the dewatering is achieved by pressing the sludge between the filter plates under high pressure. In order to achieve a good separation (dry sludge and clear filtrate) it is necessary to add a poly-electrolyte.
Plate presses are designed for batch processes.
The high pressure and the correct selection of the cloth material results in a very dry filter cake.
The opening of the plate press and the discharge of the filter cake can be partially automated but still require the surveillance of an operator and is labour-intensif.
