Our mission
By thoroughly purifying water and enabling local reuse, AAQUA aims to protect natural resources and drastically reduce the environmental impact as well as water and energy costs of industrial companies.
Vision
Ever more often, we are faced with the limited availability of water. By now, just about everyone realises that we need to treat this valuable resource differently. But how exactly do we do that? What measures can smaller industrial companies or businesses with complex wastewater streams or stringent process requirements take to reduce their consumption and optimise their water flows?
We are convinced that almost every industrial company is capable of recovering and reusing water, heat and other valuable resources from its wastewater and can thus, eventually, be disconnected from the public drinking water network. In addition to being an ecological necessity and a technical possibility, we believe that it’s also an economic opportunity. Provided, of course, that installations are characterised by a calculated, robust and user-friendly design. This is why, every day, we guide our clients towards an optimised water management tailored to their process, budget and capacity and why we do so with a necessary sense of innovation, creativity and realism. After all, even with complex problems, the key to success is often found in easy - and easy-to-manage - solutions.
Our
history
From 1998 up to now
1998
Foundation
Marc Feyten, who at the time works for a slaughter line construction company, notices that there’s still a lot to be done in the wastewater treatment. In December 1998, he therefore founds AAQUA, which initially specialises in physicochemical and biological water treatment.
2003
Own automation
From 2003, AAQUA also takes on the complete automation of water treatment plants. This makes it easier to respond to customers' specific needs.
2006
Remote monitoring as a standard
As of 2006, every AAQUA installation is equipped with remote monitoring. Employees can thus provide remote support and, when necessary, even intervene.
2015
Abattoir wastewater becomes drinking water
A Belgian first! The wastewater treatment plant at Adriaens slaughterhouse is expanded so that the wastewater is now effectively upgraded to drinking water quality and can be reused in the abattoir’s processes.
2016
A new look
AAQUA moves from its modest offices in Bonheiden to a larger site with offices, workshop and warehouse in Sint-Katelijne-Waver. Not much later, AAQUA becomes part of the French Aquaprox group, although it retains its autonomy.
2017
Closing the loop
AAQUA acquires Interindus. With the acquisition, the company obtains special knowledge regarding the production of process water, thus supporting ambitions to close the loop from wastewater to process water.
2020
From tank cleaning wastewater to a tasty brew
After the Belgian premiere in 2015, a European and potentially even global exclusive follows in 2019: wastewater from a tank cleaning company is treated to drinking water quality. The water is reused primarily on the company's food tracks, but is also used to brew a small-batch beer, appropriately named Tanker.
2021
Reuse on the rise
By 2021, AAQUA derives 30% of its turnover from water reuse projects. Four years earlier, despite a few pioneering projects, water reuse still played a negligible role in the company’s figures.
2022
Aaqua takes the prize!
2022 was the year of several recognitions. In addition to obtaining a Katelijnse kei and the VOKA Local Award (Mechelen region), we also won the Prize for Innovative Entrepreneurship (Mechelen-Kempen region). Enormous pride prevails!
2023
First project in the US
AAQUA builds a water treatment plant for a new tank cleaning site in Houston, Texas. While the cost of water in the US is extremely low, client Stolt Nielsen specifically opted for water reuse.
